mambo red
an event hosted by the singapore students' society over here in perth in place of the usual wed nights spent at zouk (for the original mambo of cos!). they actually managed to fly in dj sonny who spins on mambo jambo nights and they got dj carl blue and dj ad roc to front the r&b section of the club. and might i just say that this mambo was one of the best clubbing experience i ever had (yes i know 3 certain girls who wld be nodding their heads vigorously but THAT is not the only reason)
the night had started out normal.. for the day leading to that evening was highly uneventful... the only exciting thing was when i coughed, i cld feel my chest and lungs cramping up in spasms.. and i was even doubtful that i was going to enjoy myself that night... anyways we had a simple, quick dinner and proceeded to get ready for the night... which i tell u was quite fast... within 15 mins, we were done. and boy were we casual... if they had 'casual fashion night' we wld not have won it. but that's only because when we got to the club, we found out that the 4 EXTREMELY casually dressed ladies from the bus ride there (they were in like slippers... okie nice slippers, polo tees, pants/skirts) were IN FACT going to mambo! honestly, even tho i wld have gone in a more casual attire, i wld not go in like slippers!!! even tho they are nice slippers.. and that brings me to the first time i went clubbing (coincidentally at zouk...), where i went in my 'oh so fashionable' nike acg sandals (yes everyone.. please collectively sound out gasps of horror). anyways i digress...
highlight no 1: met our IMMENSELY happy friend (ie gay) tommy, after such a long time. well he certainly brought cheer to start of ja's and my night. something abt a caterpillar..2 hours ago.. cocoon... now... butterfly... later... were among that topics that he talked. (we just listened and laugh)
highlight no 2: if u're a girl and if u club, u wld know that it's natural that guys wld buy us drinks... some semblance of club etiquette i suppose (which i think is really nice of them...) hence u do not need to bring that much $$. altho at the same time, u gotta work it a bit. u know do those girlie (ie cutesy, teh-ing the person). so we did work it a bit, and we got bought a few drinks (thanx!).
highlight no 3: met a couple of pple there, whom i either haven't met since they came here, or haven't been meeting up with. altho it was impossible to have caught up with anything, seeing them having fun was good enough. among those i met, i actually managed to talk to my ah bang, chris, whom i haven't spoke to for the longest time and even took a couple of pics with him and my other ah bang (ryan) and his gf, sweet cheryl....
highlight no 4: always been pretty intimidated by the hm (human movt) gang because they are so tight man... it's like a11 and me. and any outsiders wld just feel uncomfy. but last night, i realised that they are actually very easy going and dreadfully fun pple! i'm pleasantly surprised at how they just involved me in dancing with them, taking pictures with them. and ja was making sure that i wasn't left out at all.. (which i am grateful so THANK YOU JA JA!!!)
highlight no 5: and then there was the booze and whatever pleasures brought along with being intoxicated. (those 3 girls are once again nodding their heads...*blush*) and no i was not involved in some massive sex orgy or whatever kinky things u perverted friends of mine are thinking abt. and the music played was good... we ACTUALLY had authentic mambo music instead of trance or house made to sound like mambo jambo stuff by the sorry excuse of an aussie dj. it just goes to show that it pays flying a veteran mambo dj to spin, thereby drawing the crowds at the same time. i'm proud of our mambo culture!
we didn't realise that it was that late till we got home, glanced at the clock and promptly sprawled ourselved on the floor in my room, trying to work off the remaining high. as ja lugged her tired, alcohol infused body to the bathroom, i cld only feel lucky that i don't have a 9am volleyball tute 3 hours later. and we both agreed that without pressure and with alcohol, it was certainly the best mambo we attended. and of cos, we had nice pple to club with! *fades off into the night with the sounds of bananarama, kylie and that wooohoo song playing*
